What is Laser Cleaning?

Laser Cleaning (or laser cleaning ) is an innovative and ecological technology designed to degrease, strip paint and deoxidise surfaces quickly, effectively and completely dry.

How it works:

  • Targeted and selective action : The machine projects a concentrated laser beam onto the surface. The light energy is absorbed only by the layer of dirt (such as rust, paint, scale, or soot), causing it to evaporate immediately.
  • No damage to the base material : The underlying material (metal, stone, wood, or composites) reflects light or remains below the damaging heat threshold. The original surface is thus perfectly cleaned, without scratches, wear, or geometric alterations.
  • Contactless technology : As there is no mechanical friction or the use of abrasive particles (as in sandblasting), the process is completely non-invasive.
  • 100% Eco-Friendly : The system operates without the use of water, acids, or chemical solvents. This eliminates the production of sludge or toxic residues, drastically reducing operating and disposal costs.

Pulsed Light Technology (MOPA)

  • High Intensity Pulses : Releases energy in the form of trains of very short pulses (in the order of nanoseconds) with extremely high instantaneous power peaks.
  • Photomechanical Interaction : Pulverizes the contaminant using the shock wave of light; the speed of the pulse prevents heat transfer to the substrate.
  • Application : Specifically designed for high-precision machining and the treatment of delicate or thermally sensitive surfaces. Ideal for the conservative restoration of cultural heritage, precision industrial molds, thin car bodies, wood, and composite materials.

How to choose the energy level based on mJ

The laser energy determines the spatial distribution profile: low energies produce concentrated Gaussian distributions with high peak intensity, while high energies generate TopHat profiles with reduced intensity and enlarged footprint.

  • 2-5 mJ : maximum aggressiveness on refractory contaminants, high risk of damage to the substrate
  • 15 mJ : hybrid profile, good compromise between effectiveness and control
  • 50-100 mJ : uniform distribution, minimizes interaction with substrate, reduced aggressiveness
