Lighting control plays a vital role in modern poultry farming techniques. Proper lighting control allows poultry farmers to reap the benefits of achieving excellent production goals. The first step in achieving lighting control in a poultry house is to have a darkened facility.
A practical problem to address when darkening a farm is the need to have ventilation openings in the structure to allow fresh air to enter and stale air to be removed. Daylight enters the building through every ventilation opening unless the passages are darkened by a light filter that lets air through but absorbs light radiation.
In a light filter, the profile of the fins that compose it is designed to maximize the number of reflections of light radiation between the two sides of the fins. In fact, each reflection absorbs part of the brightness, thus decreasing its intensity. The profile of the fins of a light filter must be such as to determine many reflections of light radiation without excessively obstructing the air flow. To obtain a balanced design, Munters' expert engineers used cutting-edge computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.

Munters light filters mount quickly and easily using a unique design while saving time through the use of spacer pieces that hold the panels securely in place.

Curved panels create plenty of reflections to absorb light while creating a smooth passage for airflow.

The LFd light filter can be applied to both air inlets and exhaust outlets to create dark conditions inside the farm even when the sun is shining outside. On such days the ambient brightness can reach up to 160,000 lux. After passing through the LFd the light is reduced to 0.12 lux, ensuring total darkness.
With the Munters LFd24 LFd30 LFd36 and LFd50 Light Filters, you can achieve adequate lighting control without neglecting air exchange.
