In a clockwise direction ( summer function ) the air is circulated by the fan downwards, creating a cooling effect and reducing air conditioning costs . In an anticlockwise direction ( winter function ) the fan circulates the stagnant hot air that is deposited on the ceiling, reducing heating costs.
